Change The World Christmas Challenge 2014

ChristmasChallenge850x315The 2014 Change The World Christmas Challenge at FUMC Allen is well underway. Join us in supporting the following ministries and missions throughout the holiday season.

KIDS AGAINST HUNGER: NOV 9

On  Sunday, November 9, FUMC Allen sponsored a packaging event in the gym for Kids Against Hunger. Volunteers assembled packages of highly nutritious vitamin-fortified meals that will be sent to children in Honduras. Many thanks to all the volunteers who packaged food in the gym or made a donation to help feed the hungry (a $10 donation feeds 40 children while $50 buys a box of food.

We are please to report that 70 volunteers donated a total of 140 hours of their day to package 24,624 meals. Many thanks to volunteers from FUMC Allen, the Young Men’s Service League of Plano, and the Frisco Independence High School Key Club for all their help. MILITARY SUPPORT GROUP: OCT 20-NOV 9

After a Sunday of assembling and packing on November 9, our Military Support Group and church volunteers mailed Stockings for Soldiers on Monday, November 10, to eight different distribution points. Boxes containing 290 stockings weighing  641.89 pounds were shipped in 23 boxes to Korea, Kuwait, Romania, North Carolina, two locations in Japan, and two locations in California. Your contributions helped to cover the $1,009.48 needed to cover the postage.

MEALS ON WHEELS: NOV 27

On Thanksgiving Day 2014, volunteers gather at FUMC Allen to prepare and package 930 meals for Collin County Meals on Wheels. Cans of green beans and cranberry sauce as well as pumpkin and pecan pies began appearing at the church on Sunday, November 23. Turkeys were put into the roaster on Tuesday. On Thursday, members begin delivering hot dishes of dressing and mashed potatoes. Cooks in the kitchen will begin warming up green beans and making gravy.  Three shifts worked throughout the morning on November 27 and  drivers arrived at 9:30am to deliver meals throughout Collin County. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE NOV 30

FUMC Allen’s blood drive on August 10 broke previous records with 27 donations! Let’s set a new record with more than 30! The Red Cross returns to east parking lot from 9:00am-1:00pm for our quarterly BLOOD DRIVE. TRINITY RIVER MISSION: NOV 30-DEC 13

Trinity River Mission serves children, youth and families in West Dallas focusing on promoting literacy and augmenting academic skills. The needs are many. FUMC Allen is partnering with 10 families of the 71 families involved in this program this year. Each family in the program has worked hard to complete numerous service hours at Trinity River Mission and in their surrounding community in order to participate in this program. Our participation will enable these deserving families to have a very blessed Christmas. For more information, contact David Wuensch.

SEND HOPE NOV 30-DEC 21

Pick up a Ziploc bag from a Christmas box at church entrances and fill with Christmas gifts for the children of Honduras. Return to the Send Hope box by Sunday, December 21. For more information contact Tom Brian, 972.965.6534 or Marilyn Tucker.

JUNTOS SERVIMOS NOV 30-DEC 28

Donate blankets for Juntos Servimos/Casa Bugambilia in Mexico. Collection boxes will be available throughout the church from Sunday. November 30 through Sunday, December 28. If you have questions, contact Margie Rozelle, 972.370.6542.

SHARE A BEAR, BEAR A CARE NOV 30-DEC 21

During the Advent season, help children in crisis by leaving a new 6″-18″ stuffed non-musical teddy bear in the pew. Bears will be distributed after the Christmas holidays. Contact Sue Crawford-Stauffer, 214.577.5584.
