Retailers are telling us and the kids are running from it, but the first day of school is less than one month away. In the next month, parents will be purchasing back to school supplies, backpacks, clothes, and shoes. They will be scheduling appointments for physicals, vaccinations, eye exams, dental cleanings, haircuts, and more.
But many of our families right here in Allen cannot afford to shop the early bird specials and depend on our generous community to help them get back to school in style.
FILL THE BUS, Allen Community Outreach’s annual school supply drive begins in August, but the time to start purchasing those supplies is NOW. Local retailers, including Wal Mart, Target, and Staples, have stocked their shelves with school and are offering deep discounts on the most needed products for any student heading back to the classroom. For example, Staples is offering 25% off school supplies with the purchase of any backpack. Wal Mart has a big school supply flyer coming out on July 29. Target has put a 50 cent price tag on many of the most basic but necessary supplies. They even have a selection of backpacks for $18.
The bus comes to FUMC Allen on August 7. On that day, we hope you’ll bring to church bags full of bargains as well as a backpack or two. Together, we can make our children’s Back to School a year to remember.
