The summer lunch program is a summer-long endeavor set up to provide food and activities for families of students attending Boyd Elementary in the Allen Independent School District. For many years now, the churches of Allen have come together to help the students and families that attend or live near Boyd Elementary in Allen have a healthy lunch during the summer months. The ministry, started through the Allen Ministerial Alliance, now known as 3C Allen, provides lunch along with crafts, games, and fellowship.
A majority of the students at Boyd Elementary are on the free or reduced lunch program. These families often struggle during the summer months to provide nutritious meals for their children. The program also provides a way for churches to reach out to this community and provide the children with fun activities and events the can look forward to throughout the summer.
This program has been in place for several years and runs the months of June, July, and August to help feed the children who are impacted. Organizations in the Allen area provide food, games, crafts, and volunteers each day, Monday through Friday. Each of the churches who participate chose a week in the summer to have a wonderful and rewarding time playing, eating, and visiting with the families.
Anywhere from 60-100 children participate in the program. While attendance varies throughout the summer, your help is greatly needed.
FUMC Allen is hosting the Summer Lunch Program during the week of August 17-21, 2015, from 11:00am-1:00pm each day at the school. This is a great volunteer opportunity for all family members – especially youth-aged kids!
