Movies and television (not to mention all forms of entertainment) have a profound influence in our lives. The images and narratives we see influence our identity, spirituality, and the values that guide our decision making. This can be both positive and negative, depending on our point of view, maturity, and choices.
The stories we see in movies and TV present life dilemmas that cause us to think and ponder how we might respond in similar circumstances. Most movies are not biblically or spiritually based; however, most movies present a dilemma that can be considered from a faith-based point of view. Movies of all kinds include themes and sub-themes that if we intentionally ponder, we find ourselves thinking about life, relationships, and the challenges we face.
Over the next 8 weeks, we’ll be considering a variety of different themes discovered in movies and then think about what the Bible has to say.
What does our faith teach us when we are faced with challenges regarding our identity, interactions with others (namely family members), God’s plan, freedom, privileged lives, and sacrificial love… just to name a few. The film clips that we view as part of each sermon are not part of faith-based films but through each clip, we’ll consider how the narratives might form our faith stories.
