One way you can help support Change The World Allen is by making donations to the following groups:
Military Support Group
Help us build care packages for our troops. Buckets are available at the entrances at First United Methodist Church Allen to collect items to package on Sunday, May 15. Cash donations to help pay for the shipping costs can be dropped in the offering plate (mark the check for military support) or left at the church office.
SUGGESTED ITEMS: Snack foods, combs/brushes, Post It notes/notepads, small packs of wet wipes, individual cans of tuna or chips, hard candy, hot chocolate packets, small packs of Kleenex, Ladies hair bands (black or brown only), pens/pencils, AA or AAA batteries No glass bottles or aerosol cans
Donation boxes will be placed at Allen Latter Day Saint locations for a period of time prior to and including May 14 and 15 for people to drop off DVDs that will be give to Victoria Gardens for the residents to enjoy.
Spanish reading books
Donation boxes will be placed at First United Methodist Church Allen for a period of time prior to and including May 14 and 15 for people to drop off Spanish reading books for children and teens. These books will be sent to Honduras through the Send Hope project. Karen Elstoen is leading this project.
Donation boxes will be placed at First United Methodist Church Allen for a period of time prior to and including May 14 and 15 for people to drop off new or gently used shoes. These will be donated to Allen Community Outreach and other local organizations where they are needed. Greg Schell is the project leader and can be reached at email@example.com.
Feed the Volunteers
Throughout this event meals are provided to volunteers. If you are able to provide any of the following items, it would be greatly appreciated. They can be dropped off at First United Methodist Church Allen in the Fellowship Hall kitchen Thursday May 12 between 9 AM and 5 PM and on Friday May 13 between 9:00am and 12:00pm.
SUGGESTED ITEMS: paper cups/plates/napkins, soft drinks or Gatorade (individual cans/bottles), paper towels, plastic wrap, sandwich bags, snack foods (cheese/peanut butter crackers, granola bars, peanuts, small packages of cookies, individual wrapped sliced cheese, loaves of white or wheat bread, tubs of sliced turkey or ham for sandwiches, pimento cheese spread, boxes of individual bags of chips, homemade cookies, large aluminum roasting pans
ACO Clothing, Food and Book Drive
The mission of Allen Community Outreach is to rebuild lives in Allen, Fairview and Lucas by providing emergency assistance for families and individuals. Your donations go directly to families in this area and it’s easy to do! Bags will be distributed to homes in the surrounding area during the week before May 13. Fill the bag with your donation of nonperishable food items, books, gently used shoes, and clothing. Leave the bag outside your door before 9:00am, Saturday, May 14. Volunteers will collect donations between 9:00am and 1:00pm Saturday, May 14.
Hope’s Door Shoe Boxes
Women in Mission Ruth Circle and Deborah Circle are collecting personal and hygiene items for a women’s ministry. Items can be put in shoe boxes or in a medium-size gift bag. Individual donations will also be accepted. Drop off items at FUMC Allen inside the east doors in the receptacle marked WOMEN’S MINISTRY.
SUGGESTED ITEMS: shampoo, conditioner, soap/shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, dental floss, shower caps, moisturizer, band aids, antiseptic cream, personal hygiene products, pedicure cream and heel defoliator, nail polish, hair accessories, Q-Tips, razors/shaving cream, makeup products
Refugee Hygiene Kits
Donation boxes are located at the Allen Latter Day Saints Chapels until May 14 (1401 E Main Street, Allen; 1324 W. Exchange Pkwy, Allen; or 651 E Stacy Rd, Fairview). Kits will be assembled on Saturday, May 14, at 1404 E Main Street in Allen from 11:0am to 1:00pm.
